you are right. this is crater lake and it is a dormant volcano with 2000 foot deep water inside. so it is taken from the lip of the volcano.

I wondered if this was my any chance Crater Lake...I was there with my parents as a young child and I can still remember the beauty of that area! Wonderful to see it in your photo..amazingly breathtaking!!!

I was at Crater Lake a few years ago, it's so beautiful. There was still some snow around and that was in August!
