You know this one was named after you, right? BTW, I'd be very much interested to know wher this tapir lives. Of all the tapir pictures I've ever seen (thousands?) I've never seen one sleeping in its pool in the rain, although I have seen them open their mouths toward the sky. The seem to like the feel of water in the mouth. Very, very nice photo, nnice colors. Most don't have such bright rust color around the neck - only the one I raised who later lived at San Diego Zoo. Again, I'd love to know where this is.
tapirgal, only you would know that! yes, it's a baird's tapir. i thought it was funny that it was a baird anything and i think i would have enjoyed that drizzle too. this one lives quite comfortably at the milwaukee county zoo. it is not raining ... it's some kinda spray from above. all the best. nikonsniper steve

To my great delight I discovered your so interesting blog today. Thank you. At first glance I thought it was a hippo. Silly, eh! Absolutely great photos!!! Betty P.S. I 'd be so glad if you had a chance to visit mine.Thank you.
Hi Stephen, thanks for the info. Here's a link to the guy they named the tapir after. Scroll to the second bio. Baird's tapir was named in his honor out of respect:
It is certainly interesting for me to read this post. Thank author for it. I like such topics and everything connected to this matter. I definitely want to read a bit more on that blog soon.

Interesting critter, not a pretty one, but interesting, very interesting.
He looks like he's just relaxing and enjoying the spray. Nice clear shot too.
Love your "eye". But, as a former English teacher, I may love your titles more!

A tapir - no one ever takes pics of tapirs. This was my daughter's favorite animal when she was 5!

Fantastic set of photos of animals and your pets.
I like the camel best.
This is so precious, I love its atmosphere. Btw, are you on flickr? You really should post your images on there ;-)
He looks like he would if he was in a hot tub!
Good life! Sleeping in fresh water, my summer deam.
Wonderful shots. Makes me want to head to Milwaukee. Haven't been to the zoo there since my kids were little!
