vivian, ok ... sometimes it's a bit difficult to explain. it isn't horribly difficult to DO but it is tough to describe. it involves two software programs, irfanview and photoshop. the photo itself is shot over a 4 second period while zooming a lens. then you have to produce a radial blur on the photo with irfanview. then you have to make a second photo from the first by making a negative of the first photo. then you paste the two photos together in photoshop and erase a bit on one of the layers so that the other layer shows through. that is most of what is done ... but it is FAR easier for me to show someone how to do this than to describe how it is done.
btw ... another pristine el camino escaped me down near la jolla, ca last week. i tried to chase the guy for a bit but i already got a ticket last summer in california so i didn't want risk it. but i haven't forgotten. i still aim to put the "el" back in camino.

Thanks, Steve! I know what you mean about showing somebody how to achieve that photo rather than explaining it, although, you did a fine job explaining it. I will tell my son, he is great in photoshop.
OOOoooo, the El will someday be back in the camino! yeah!

Merry Christmas to you and your fam!

ps....is it my imagination or did this photo change since last I viewed it?

vivian ... yes i am still monkeying around with it. i am keeping all the versions but i am repeating the exercise with several others. i went out tonight to drive around town in the rainy snow and take wild abstract photo burns of various christmas lights. in some shots i purposely am waving my camera around ... while shooting for 2 seconds. this is like painting the digital image with the movement of your hands. took many variations in order to keep goofing around with this kind of graphic art on the rainy days.
hope you all have a great christmas. nikonsniper steve
