Heckety, This is a Australian fruit bat or it's called a flying fox. The wingspan is between 4-5 feet. They are huge. I saw thousands hanging in trees and flying overhead in Port Douglas, Australia. I walked down to a park before dusk when they begin to wakeup and fly great distances for food. Awesome experience. My wife was quite terrified at first but I kept pressing to get closer to photgraph them. I kept reassuring her that they wouldn't bother us. I had no idea if it was true but they never seemed to care about our observation. I have been around bats in North America on many occasions. I have had more than a dozen enter our home over the years. That is less fun. NikonSniper Steve
