Enlisting Dogs In The Army

This is our daughter, Tara Baird. She is a Combat Field Medic in the Army, specifically the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), 4th Brigade Combat Team (Currahee), 801st Brigade Support Battalion (Maintaineers), Charlie Company (Painkillers). I have no idea what all that means. I really only understand that Tara was trained for the saving of lives in combat. Tara has spent time in Korea and is stationed currently at Fort Campbell, KY waiting her next deployment sometime early next year.
Tara has always been a dog nut and has really grown up with the fantastic dogs at Shewana Shepherds. We knew it was really just a matter of time before she found a way to enlist a dog in the military. Well, truthfully, I'm not really sure how Tara pulled this stunt off but she has now enlisted 3 German Shepherds, personally delivered from the Johnsons, owners of Shewana Shepherds, Harvard, IL to her new home in Fort Campbell, KY. Tara has known the dogs since their birth and even bottle fed two of them many years ago before she enlisted in the Army.
You can see these three dogs on the Shewana Shepherds link. Two can be seen on the "Our Dogs", Males section, named Shai and Tesher and one can be seen on the "Our Dogs", Females section, named Symphony. The whole world seems to fall into line for Tara when she is near a dog. Thank you to the Johnsons for your life long frienship to Tara.
Please keep Tara and all our troops in your prayers.
God bless!

Hymn To The Fallen
Here is my tribute to the valiant soldiers of the past and to those brave men and women serving their countries now in conflicts all over the world. Please join me in praying for all those who make the sacrifice of service for their country.
Having a child serving in the military has made us more aware as a family to the real sacrifice a soldier makes for us. We are constantly reminded by that empty chair at family gatherings.
I wish I had access to take all of these photos myself … but I wanted to link them together in a tribute to those making the incredible sacrifice for our protection. Thank you to all the photographers that recorded such moving images of humanity, kindness and hope. May God protect soldiers everywhere!
Send a link to the servicemen and women in your families.
Soldiers! May God guide and protect both you and your families during your service and may He minister to you in battle. I want to encourage you for your sacrifice.
God’s blessing and protection!
In Christ!

Happy Memorial Day 2012

Happy Memorial Day Weekend to ALL!
Our Combat Field Medic daughter, Tara drove through the night from Fort Campbell, KY and will spend the weekend with us. It was two years ago on this Memorial Day that Tara left us for basic training and to begin her military service.
I am learning to sneak out of the house for photos with her Army toys while she is sleeping.
Thanks to all of you brave men and women who serve this country now and for those of you who have served in years past when our country has called upon you! God bless you and your families!
I will be taking a short nikonsniper break to enjoy the weekend with our reunited family.

Happy Memorial Day 2011

This is our daughter Tara assisting wounded soldiers during training exercises as a field medic. Tara left us on Memorial Day 2010 so she is gone now a year. Tara is stationed in South Korea and hopes to get home for a short rest in the next few months.
On Memorial Day 2011, we are praying for all our troops out there in harms way and also those serving here in the USA. May the Lord guide and protect you all.
Tara ... we miss you and can't wait to see you again on this side of the water. Proud of you!

Somewhere On This Planet

Somewhere on this planet
I'm sure you'll soon awake
to find your face on your Daddy's blog
and think for goodness sake.
Though we seem so far away
and all around is weird
The God who made both you and I
can hold us when we're a-fear'd.
You know I'm not a poet
but at least I took a try.
Just know we love and miss you and ...
awe geeez another tear is in my eye.
Love you Tara, Pops

Hello From Fort Sill, Oklahoma

Well, after a long silent period we finally heard from our daughter Tara at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The soldiers in training were allowed to call home for this weekend.
Just to hear her voice describing things that she has been learning ensured us that she is making her strong presence felt. She spoke of things she liked and things she doesn't like ... but she genuinely sounds happy.
Physical Training, Drills, Marches, Classroom, Convoys, Food, Weapons, Combat, Repelling, and on and on. She said, "Dad, ... do you remember watching Renaissance Man? ... well it's kinda like that."
Just seeing her smile in this photo from her cellphone made our seperation a bit more joyful. Still praying for you out there little girl!
Love, Dad
