Hello From Fort Sill, Oklahoma

Well, after a long silent period we finally heard from our daughter Tara at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The soldiers in training were allowed to call home for this weekend.
Just to hear her voice describing things that she has been learning ensured us that she is making her strong presence felt. She spoke of things she liked and things she doesn't like ... but she genuinely sounds happy.
Physical Training, Drills, Marches, Classroom, Convoys, Food, Weapons, Combat, Repelling, and on and on. She said, "Dad, ... do you remember watching Renaissance Man? ... well it's kinda like that."
Just seeing her smile in this photo from her cellphone made our seperation a bit more joyful. Still praying for you out there little girl!
Love, Dad

That is really awesome you got to hear from your daughter on Father's Day. What a wonderful surprise.

May life and time continue to treat her kind.

I think having a son or daughter in the military would be extremely tough... I don't know how you do it. I am sure cell photos and opportunities for communication help a bit but missing them would be harder than I can even imagine.

She looks good alright, but basic training is no walk in the park.

I'm glad they let her call home.

When my son did basic three years ago, they didn't let him call home but instead made him write home. It was a miracle I tell ya. He never wrote anything he absolutely didn't have to.

Isn't technology great? You are able to get a picture of your daughter in instants. It was a nice surprise, I bet, to receive a call from Tara on Father's Day.

Going through basic training in the Navy, it was a treat calling home. So I bet this was more special to her than you can imagine. It helps to have that communication. It gives the spirit a boost.

Your daughter looks great. It's awfully hot and humid here. She's got to one tough kid to be able to stand all the drills, marching etc in the heat. Please pass my thanks onto her and her group for their willingness to defend our country. God bless each and every one of them.

It would be really good to hear from her, we miss them at the best of times but when they are in the forces, it will mean even more to you.

She looks great! She sounds strong and grounded- tough to do when going through such a stressful indoctrination. You must be very proud. I'm so honored she has chosen to serve her country- thank you both.

Next time you hear from her, tell her "Thank You" for me.

My youngest wants to join the Marines (he graduates in 2 years)... how do you do it? Where do you put your fear when they make this decision?

You must be so very proud!
And thrilled to receive a Father's day message.
Thank you Lord for the technology that allows us all to share the journey.
Stay safe Tara and know that Australians are also proud of your efforts.
