Wow! That's beautiful, but frightening. What an opportunity for a photo. I usually turn and run when I see something like that. (Not since I left Louisiana.)
As deathly afraid of this creature that I am...the photographer in me has this shot at the top of my "I Must shoot that someday" list [with a camera...not a gun] When I was out west a few years ago, one of my goal was a great rattlesnake photo. I combed the desert always looking for one. I did finally get one photo while in Yosemite [above 600 feet which is rare for rattlers] but it wasn't great...just mere proof that I saw one [in fact, I almost sat on that one because my guard was down due to the elevation].
