Lovely. This one is just begging to become a haiku postcard.

This is beautiful....I've been meaning to ask you what kind of Nikon camera do you use?

We are looking at the Nikon D90..would love to hear your feedback..

I live on a mountain ridge and I am wanting to capture the birds that are flying across the valley each day. I'm watching with my binoculars and about to cry over the pictures I could be taking.

Thanks so much,
Stephanie

Queen of Dreamsz Stephanie,
I think you will like my oppinion of your choice. I can be more specific as to why but start by reading my answer here:

http://nikonsniper.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

There is a skill to doing what you are attempting or hoping to attempt to do. But learning how to master your skills are realitively inexpensive by comparison to the days when I shot film and made some STUPID STUPID STUPID mistakes. I am still angry 30 years later.
I still think that taking basic photography classes with your new camera are a good idea. Most classes will stretch you and force you to read your manual. I never would have read mine if I still didn't take classes today. Even this past year, I have taken basic intro classes because I still learn so much from others. I am particularily amazed at how many people are BRILLIANT compared to me. Young people come up with some of the strangest cool ideas and it's worth the price of admission just to sit with some of those skate-boarding, comic book reading, nuclear goofballs. They have taught me the most in recent years. I applaud their ways of thinking in the photographic realm.
D90 is a great choice. Keep shootin'!

I spend a great deal of time in the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina. I love these scenes.

I love the way the scene 'grows' from the deep blue shadows in the foreground to brilliant light playing on the trees in the background. It's almost as if the fallen tree somehow separates the 'light' from the 'darkness'.
Very nice!

Stephen ,
A couple of question .....
Do you sell your pictures or just post them for our enjoyment ?
I draw and paint and some of your pictures would be lovely to do that with. Is that something I could request ? Please advise me of your protocol.
thank you for taking the time to capture these moments for us. They are all fabulous.

dominique eichi,
yeah about that protocol! uh, it's really complicated. see it's just that ... well, i am a simpleton and i prefer to think about these things like a simpleton.
so, here's the protocol:
1. thanks for thinking my stuff is worthy of this compliment.
2. if ya do anything with your art ... congratulations that you are able to do that. what a skill!
3. send me a photo copy ... so i can at least see what you did.
4. say nice things about me. tell people i am good looking too.
5. get a nikonsniper tattoo (optional).

if you can handle this protocol (strict rules) ... well then i am good with it. i am always fascinated at which photos people find worthy of this compliment. some of my very favorites ... don't even get responses. that should tell you a bit about my personal taste.

all the best.

Beautiful. I'd love to walk along this creek and put my feet in the water.

What a beautiful picture. This is my idea of a what a truly tranquil place looks and feels like, together with the sounds of birdsong and water. Lovely.
